What is it? AGRO ART is 3-dimensional fruit and vegetable artwork. This quirky competition fosters imagination, creativity and fun for both participants and the viewing public.

How does the competition work? The competition takes place at the Community Center on the grounds of the Castroville Artichoke Festival on Saturday, May 17th. Artists may enter the arena with their supplies when the gates open at 10 A.M.. All parking is in the public area, so competitors should have wagons or carts for their supplies. Entrants may begin building their sculptures at 10:00 A.M.

Judging will begin at 1 P.M. All sculptures must remain in the Community Center until 5 P.M. Sunday when the festival ends.


Who may enter?
The competition is open to kids from 7 to 97. Area artists, culinary whizzes and school teams are encouraged. No prior experience is required. Competition will be in the following categories.

Adult - Individual & Team of 2 or 3
High school (grades 9-12) - Individual & Team of 2 or 3
Middle School (grades 7 &8) - Individual & Team of 2 or 3
Grammar School (grades 1-6) - Individual & Team of 2 or 3
Professional (chefs, florists and artists)

How much does it cost?
No fee is charged for competition entry. Each entrant or team will be assigned one-half of a 6 foot table. Contestants are responsible for providing their own supplies and produce.

What are the rules? Sculptures must be constructed during the competition time of no earlier then 10 A.M. and no later then 1 P.M. on Saturday. Judging will begin at 1 P.M. sharp, and winners will be announced between 2 and 3 P.M. on the main stage

Entrants must pay the regular festival admission fee. Entrants must fill out the entry form either in advance or at the entrance to the competition on May 17th.


TABLE SPACE IS LIMITED.
ONLY PRE-REGISTERED ENTRANTS ARE GUARANTEED A TABLE. OCEAN MIST FARMS WILL PROVIDE ARTICHOKES, PLUS OTHER VEGGIES INCLUDING CAULIFLOWER, BROCCOLI, AND HEAD LETTUCE. ALL WILL BE SET UP IN THE COMPETITION AREA AT NO COST TO COMPETITORS. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!



Entries must be picked up by 4 p.m. on Sunday. All entries not picked up by
4 p.m. will become the property of the Castroville Artichoke Festival.

Entries must be at least 60% fresh produce and 10% artichokes.

Since the sculptures will be on display for two days and sit out overnight, it is recommended that they be hearty.

Special consideration will be given those entries where the majority of produce comes from Monterey County.

No flowers may be used; however, it is permissible to use leaves, brush, grasses and other living foliage.

It is permissible to use wire, wood, glue, tape and plastic to form a base for the sculpture or secure it.

Entrants must provide their own supplies except for veggies as noted above.
